Assam Rifles in Nagaland’s Mon district lives up to its sobriquet

The Assam Rifles, founded in 1835 by the British in India’s northeastern region, are popularly known by the sobriquet ‘Sentinels of the Northeast’.

Headquartered in Laitkor (Shillong), Meghalaya, the Assam Rifles mostly serve in the tribal belt of the region. During their mission, they make every effort to help civilians in whatever way they can. They have also gained the trust of the local inhabitants through their intervention by way of different welfare programme and services.

One such assistance programme that came in line with their goodwill gesture was a mega health check-up cum medical camp held at Tizit village in Mon District of Nagaland on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

The Mon Battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) organised the medical camp with an aim to provide provide necessary medical assistance to remote area villagers.

A deliberate health check was also performed to identify the symptoms of monsoon related diseases, heart ailments, tuberculosis, lifestyle diseases, and life threatening diseases/problems, as well as to identify old age related problems in senior citizens such as arthritis, ENT problems, and digestion related issues.

On the occasion, a campaign was also conducted to raise awareness about vector-borne illnesses and preventative measures.

Altogether around 234 villagers, including women and children, were checked at the medical camp, and free medicine and corrective measures were offered.

Meanwhile, villagers of the region conveyed their appreciation to Assam Rifles for conducting the Medical camp for welfare of the villagers of the region, thereby living up to the motto of ‘Sentinels of North East People.’
