CoTU has taken the decision in order to conduct the funeral services of the victims who lost their lives in the recent communal violence in the state.

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has declared a 12-hour shutdown in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi starting from 5 AM to 5 PM on 15 December, 2023 (Friday). The CoTU has also appealed for cooperation of the general public in this matter.

The decision has been taken in order to conduct the funeral services of the victims who lost their lives in the recent communal violence in the state.

“We would like to inform the general public that there will be 12-Hours Total Shutdown within Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi w.e.f. 15 (Friday) 5 AM up to 5 PM for the said funeral services and appeal to the general public to cooperate,” CoTU stated in a statement on Thursday.

However, emergency services and funeral parties are exempted from the purview, it said.

The statement said that the much awaited homecoming of our fallen brothers and sisters after a long tumultuous 8 months of despair, heartbreak and hopelessness have eventually reached their resting place in their homeland.

“And we will honor our fallen Kuki-Zo brethren with the highest burial rites tomorrow i.e. 15 December Friday at Martyr Cemetery at Phaijang,” it added.

At the same time, the Committee on Tribal Unity has also appreciated the Supreme Court for understanding the sentiments of the Kuki-Zo communities and for its intervention in facilitating the return of the mortal remains back to their hometown.
