Ukhrul: WTR steps up drive, seizes 120 liquor cases

WTR had mandated all owners of hotels, restaurants, and shops in the town to dispose of any liquor being stored or sold on their premises.

The Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) has stepped up measures to combat the illegal trade of drugs and alcohol within its jurisdiction. On January 23, the WTR confiscated and destroyed as many as 120 cases of liquor from various commercial establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and shops in Ukhrul district headquarters.

The WTR officers conducted thorough checks and carried out raids at Dungrei Junction and Naga Gate on Tuesday, where they seized a total of 120 cases of liquor.

The confiscated items were destroyed in the presence of the media at the WTR Office.

The officers informed that while they have only confiscated goods this time, strict actions will be taken against any individual found to be selling alcohol in the future. They have also urged the public to cooperate with their ongoing efforts to eradicate drug and alcohol use in the Wung Tangkhul Region.

According to the officials, a notification was issued by the office on 22 January, 2024, which mandated all owners of hotels, restaurants, and shops in the town to dispose of any liquor being stored or sold on their premises. They had cautioned that failure to comply with this directive would result in necessary action being taken.

The notification was served to a total of 33 business establishments located in the district headquarters.
