PM condoles demise of Mulayam Singh Yadav

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the demise of veteran politician Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party and a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, died on Monday (October 10, 2022) at the age of 82.

The Prime Minister remarked that Yadav served the people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia.

Modi recalled the time when Singh was the Defence Minister and worked for a stronger India. Recalling his close association with with Singh, the Prime Minister said that he always looked forward to hearing his views and also shared photographs of their meetings. The Prime Minister expressed deep grief on Singh’s demise. 

According to media reports, the 82-year-old Samajwadi Party supremo was having breathing difficulties and was being treated at Medanta Hospital. Singh was also said to be suffering a urinary infection.

Due to ailing health, Singh was brought to the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, on August 22 and was moved to the ICU on October 2. He died around 8:30 AM today.

In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister tweeted;

“Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest.”

Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia.

“I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always looked forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti.”
