18 projects in Manipur among 145 sanctioned under NESIDS in last 5 yrs

As many as 18 projects have been approved for implementation in different parts of Manipur out of a total of 145 projects sanctioned for a total cost of Rs.3392.98 crore across the North East region under North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) since inception in 2017-18.

The projects sanctioned under NESIDS during the last five years (from 2017-18 to 09-02-2023) are at various stages of implementation, informed  Minister of DoNER, G. Kishan Reddy in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, 9 February.

According to the Minister, release of funds to States for these projects depends upon the pace of implementation by the Implementing Agencies on receipt of Utilization Certificates of previous releases etc. Regular follow up with State and Central Ministries was done to expedite the completion of ongoing projects and submission of utilization certificates, so that liabilities could be cleared expeditiously.

The projects included construction of six overhead Tank & ground sump & necessary pipelines in the Thongju and its adjoining areas in Imphal East District for promoting Tourism, augmentation of Senapati District Head Quarter Water Supply Scheme for promoting tourism and Water supply distribution network for Churachandpur for promoting tourism in Manipur which were approved in 2018-19 at the cost of Rs. 41.92 Crore, Rs. 29.94 and Rs. 19.80 and for which utilization certificate has been received for Rs. 38.27, Rs. 29.94 and Rs. 19.80 Crores respectively.

The other projects being taken up in the state under NESIDS are establishment of Infectious Disease Centre at Porompat, Imphal East; development of Road Connectivity from Khabam Lamkhai to Hannaching; Heingang via Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang Ching, Imphal East for promoting Tourism; Provision  of paid/private Ward in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) Imphal East, Manipur; Augmentation of Moreh Water Supply Scheme for promoting Tourism at Tengnoupal District in Manipur; Upgradation of Moirang Sendra Road upto Sendra Hillock and Road from Moirang Sendra Road to Omba Hillock and Keina Bazar on Moirang Khunou to Thanga Keibul Road-8.50 km for promoting Tourism at Bishnupur in Manipur; construction of buildings for 52 Anganwadi centres with one toilet and rain water harvesting, Chandel District in Manipur; and construction of District Hospital, Imphal West at Mayang, Imphal,Manipur which were approved during the period from 2018 to 2021.

In 2021-22, projects such as Project Strengthening for Covid-19 testing (RT-PCR, RAT and TrueNat) in Manipur; procurement of 17 ALS ambulances for 16 Districts and 1 Central Pool (Medical Directorate) in Manipur; procurement of 2000 Nos. Oxygen Concentrators and Procurement of Oxygen Cylinder -D Type-2000 No. and 1000 No. D/B type in Manipur; setting up/installation of Liquid Medical Oxygen Tank and Vaporizer 3 Nos. (one 10KL and two no. of 20 KL) at JNIMS, Imphal East in Manipur; establishment of Blood Bank at CHC Nungba, Noney District in Manipur and Infrastructure Development of Maternity & Child Hospital, Imphal East in Manipur were approved at the costs ranging from Rs. 3 crore to Rs. 34 crore and for which utilization certificates are yet to be received by the Ministry.

The total estimated cost of the 18 projects sanctioned for Manipur is Rs. 341.32 Crore of which Rs. 185.42 Crores have been released and for which utilization certificates have been received for Rs. 180.87 Crore so far.

The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) covers a wide range of sectors including education, health, power, roads and bridges, water supply and others across all Northeastern states.
