Meiphung Productions to tour Indian cities for ‘Zingthanwo’ show

The red-carpet premiere event hosted by Meiphung Productions witnessed the presence of the movie's lead actors, Reingaphan Awungshi and Philayung Jajo.

After the successful premiere of ‘Zingthanwo’ in Ukhrul town recently, Meiphung Productions is now gearing up for the screening of its latest movie in four metro cities of India.

Cine-goers in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Delhi will be treated to the sights, sounds and flavours of Tangkhul culture which promise to make for an engaging cinematic experience.

Chief operating officer of Meiphung Productions Seema Awungshi announced the four-city tour dates for the movie’s upcoming show.

Show Begins on 28 Nov

She said the tour will commence with a screening in Mumbai on 28th of November, followed by Chennai on 30th November, Hyderabad on 1st December and completing it in Delhi on 3rd December.

She explains that the upcoming tour is an amazing opportunity for their team to promote the movie and reach out to the audience. “We are very excited to bring this movie to audiences in these cities and we are leaving Ukhrul on 27th November for the first show in Mumbai the next day,” said Seema Awungshi.

Red-carpet Premiere in Ukhrul

Zingthanwo, (Morning Star), captivated the audience at Ukhrul Town Hall during its premier night on 10th November 2023. The red-carpet event hosted by Meiphung Productions witnessed the presence of the movie’s lead actors, Reingaphan Awungshi and Philayung Jajo, associated crew members along with Meiphung Productions’ CEO Aning Ruivah and COO Seema Awungshi.

The event was an inspiration for local film makers and artistes, who felt encouraged and driven by the presence of CAO, W.T.R. Ayung Sayai, social worker Wungpam Raikhan and Tangkhul Naga Film Association (TNFA) Yl Ravins as special guests.

On the night, the Meiphung Productions presented a special award to actor and director Assurance Raikhan honouring him for having produced the highest number of Tangkhul feature films by a single movie maker. Mr. Raikhan has produced a total of 16 Tangkhul feature films and he is also the President of All Tribal Films’ Organisation Manipur (ATFOM).

According to Seema Awungshi, the box office response to the movie was highly encouraging with a great turnout at the town hall screening. Over 700 movie-goers packed the venue to its capacity and the first screening alone generated over Rs. 3.45 lakhs.

The Story

‘Zingthanwo’ is a period film that delves into the pre-Christian era customs and traditions of the Tangkhul tribe in Northeastern India. Directed by Makanmi Ramror and Seema Awungshi, the drama follows the two young lovers Wungnaopam, the son of a village’s chief, and Philayung, a Princess from a neighbouring village, whose love is put to the test, as their respective clans stand against their love.

The film follows the two lovers as they struggle with an inner conflict between family versus personal emotion. It leaves the audience wondering, do they have a choice? Does their love stand a chance against the odds? These questions beg to be answered as the duo try to stay true to their love and their values.
